Composting & Gardens Project - Protect: Soil
2. What students ACCOMPLISHED (and how you measured results
Students played an active role in improving their community's environment by composting food from the cafeteria. Students identified ways in which humans change their environment by creating compost and adding compost to our school gardens. Students monitored the collection of food to be composted by being compost leaders for their class. School Gardens: $500 Rawl’s Farm garden grant was awarded and 10 raised bed gardens were constructed by Boy Scout Troop 518. $200 was granted by Lowe’s of Red Bank for equipment and $300 was granted by the DES PTO for soil. Students at each grade level are involved to plant, maintain, and harvest gardens.
3. What students TAUGHT others and how
Compost student leaders created educational videos about composting, how composting benefits the environment, and what we are using the compost for at Deerfield Elementary. The videos were shared with the entire school to educate everyone about composting.
